COVID update: With over 11.7 lakh tests, India breaks own single-day record
India also saw the highest number of single day recoveries with 68,584 COVID-19 patients were recovering in the past 24 hours.
India has broken its own record of conducting the highest number of COVID-19 tests in a day. Taking ahead its benchmark of conducting one million tests in a day, India conducted more than 11.7 lakh (1.17 million) tests in the past 24 hours taking the total number of tests to over 4.5 crores.
The information was given by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Twitter.

In the past 24 hours, the laboratories in India conducted around 11,72,179 tests taking the total to 4,55,09,380 tests so far.
According to the data released by the government, the daily testing numbers of India are one of the highest in the world.
India has seen a gradual surge in the number of testing in the past five months. As per the government’s official statement, it has expanded its lab testing network in the country.
The government data suggests that India was able to conduct 10 tests per day in January 2020 and now it has over 1600 labs that conduct 10 lakh tests per day. India has a total of 1623 labs out of which 1022 are in the government sector while 601 labs are private labs. Out of these 1623, 823 are real-time RT PCR based testing labs. 678 are TrueNat based testing labs and 122 are CBNAAT based testing labs.
Not just testing, India also saw the highest number of single day recoveries in the past 24 hours. Around 68,584 COVID-19 patients were recovered in the past 24 hours. The government data suggests that it has led to a surge in the total number of recovered patients which is nearly 30 lakhs. The total number of recoveries stands at 29,70,492.
With this, India also reported the highest number of fresh COVID-19 infections in a day. India recorded around 83,883 fresh cases in the past 24 hours and around 1043 people lost their lives.
The total number of cases in India has reached 38,53,406 out of which 29,70,492 patients have recovered. Unfortunately, 67,376 people have lost their lives.
