Covid-19 Update: Over 6 million vaccine shots given in last 24 hours
Cumulatively, 47,02,98,596 vaccine doses have been administered through 55,71,565 sessions
Continuing with the recent upward trajectory, over 60 lakh (6 million) Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours.
As per the provisional report till 8 am on Sunday, 60,15,842 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With this, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has crossed the landmark of 47 crore (470 million).
Cumulatively, 47,02,98,596 vaccine doses have been administered through 55,71,565 sessions, as per Sunday morning's provisional report.
Over the past few days, India's vaccination coverage had increased steadily, from about 3 million doses per day to over 5 million doses per day.
On July 27, 36.87 lakh doses were administered, while on July 28, the vaccination coverage in a day increased to 40.02 lakhs. Similarly, on July 29, India administered 43 lakh vaccine doses.
The figure for July 30 was 52,99,036 vaccine doses.
India’s Covid vaccination program began on January 16, covering healthcare workers in the first phase, followed by frontline workers.
It was since been extended to people over the age of 60 years, the 45+ population, and everybody over 18 years old in phases.
According to the Health Ministry, more than 49.49 crore (49,49,89,550) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far, through all sources. A further 8,04,220 doses are in the pipeline.
More than 3 crore (3,00,58,190) balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States and Union Territories (UTs) and private hospitals.
