US Deputy Secretary of State meets FS Shringla, reviews bilateral engagement between two countries
Wendy Sherman landed in New Delhi on a three-day visit which began from Tuesday
US Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman on Wednesday met Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and reviewed the India-US bilateral engagement and outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s just concluded visit to the US.
During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on regional issues, pertaining to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific regional and global issues of mutual interests.
“They discussed issues of regional interest, especially the evolving situation in Afghanistan, as well as developments at the UN. Reiterated commitment for a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, including through continued cooperation under the Quad,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a tweet.
They also took stock of bilateral issues ranging from Covid-19, security and defence, economic, climate and clean energy and people-to-people linkages
The visiting US Deputy Secretary of State will also call on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Deputy Secretary Sherman’s visit will be a useful opportunity to continue the regular dialogue and further strengthen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
