UK PM Boris Johnson was speaking at the 6th Global Tech Summit 2021

With shared culture and innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, India and UK were natural partners already working together on many fantastic projects from the UK-India Partnership including on 5G and telecoms, said UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday.

Delivering the Special Address at the 6th Global Tech Summit 2021, PM Johnson said, the summit comes at a time when we are on the cusp of an amazing new technological era.

“We have seen how technology has risen to our rescue repeatedly throughout this pandemic, bringing people and businesses together even when they have been many miles even sometimes continents apart,” he said in his virtual address.

“A huge advantage awaits us with Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing, with technology poised to help us find answers to some of humanity’s biggest challenges,” Johnson added.

“That’s why I was so pleased earlier this year when my friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I agreed that our two countries should work closer than ever before on the technology and rules that would help to shape the coming age,” he stated.

“Of course it is India, land of the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan that is powering ahead with new technology and where there is so much brilliant talent,” the UK Prime Minister reckoned.

“For ourselves in the UK, we are turbo-charging our plans for a science and technology superpower, already a world-beating tech hub attracting more investment that anywhere in Europe and we are one of the three countries world-wide with more than 100 unicorns,” he informed.

“So, with our shared culture and innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, India and UK are natural partners already working together on many fantastic projects from the UK-India Partnership including on 5G and telecoms to the UK startups who are working with Indian Giants- Tata Group and Godrej on the green technology to help power our countries to net zero,” Johnson mentioned.

“In the coming decade we will continue to deepen our bonds of tech and in other areas as we set out in the 2030 UK-India/ India-UK Roadmap and as we do so working side-by-side we will not only make the breakthroughs for transform and liberate people’s lives but will help shape a new technological age based on the principles of freedom and openness and peace,” he added.
